As well as the Big Band, Dance Band, Welsh Brass Trio and Brass Ensemble, Phil finds time to run a Traditional Dixieland Jazz Band, which specialises in providing music for outside venues - such as Cardiff International Airport as can be seen from the picture opposite, when the first Jumbo Jet landed there! This is a totally acoustic band (no electric instruments of any kind!) which recreates the sound of the New Orleans style jazz bands of yesteryear, playing favourites from the jazz giants such as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie and Kenny Ball - remember Midnight in Moscow? |

When the Quadrant Centre in Swansea was re-opened after extensive refurbishment, the Dixieland Jazz Band was requested to play for the opening celebrations. The picture opposite was taken on the steps leading to the high level cafeteria and appeared in the local press. Being an acoustic band means that all the players can walk around (and that includes the Tuba player!), much to the delight of the shoppers and their children. |

If an indoor venue is more to your liking, then the Jazz Band becomes a more electric outfit, substituting a bass guitar for the tuba and a piano for the banjo! The Jazz Band has played at many venues across South Wales including local Jazz Society evenings.
